When purchased, the mantel was installed in the Green Room at the Cooper Union building. It was installed there in 1932. Before that, it may have been in Abram Hewitt's house, 9 Lexington Avenue (1848). There is also some documentation to indicate that it was original to a house in La Grange Terrace (1831-33), Lafayette Street.
