Inscription: at top: How can I weep or mourn at all/ For one that fell asleep/ Oh was I fit for that same call/ & That I might cease to weep; to right: numerals 1-9; in center below floral band: Abigail Ridgway Her Work Don (sic) In The Year 1795.
The sampler was part of the Alexander Drake Collection until 1917, when it was sold at auction. In 1921 it was owned by a Miss Belle Skinner. After that its ownership is unclear until this year, when it was offered to us by dealer Amy Finkel.
