This picture, like the two other winter views of the Tuileries by Pissarro in the Museum's collection, belongs to the first series of works (1898–99) that he painted from his apartment in the rue de Rivoli, Paris. The pictures were well received, and the following year he rented the same apartment and executed another fourteen views.

This painting belongs to the first series of works of the Tuileries Gardens that Pissarro painted in 1898–99 from the apartment he rented for this purpose at 204, rue de Rivoli in Paris. The Museum owns two other paintings from this series, both titled "The Garden of the Tuileries on a Winter Afternoon" (MMA 66.36 and 1979.414).
