As their different color schemes suggest, the cup and cover did not originally form a set. The foot and the stem’s lower section, beneath the ring of white zigzags in relief, are modern replacements. Near the lip of the cup is a band with a flowering vase-and-bird motif, which also occurs in the basin (réchaud) displayed nearby. The shield of the powerful Montmorency-Laval family appears on the interior.
