The armchair was made as part of a set of eight chairs and two sofas for Prinz Karl von Preussen in 1828 and was placed in the marble room in Prinz Karl's town palais in the Wilhelmsplatz in Berlin.
In the Prinz Karl Palais until the 1870s, afterwards acquired by a member of the von Puttkammer family of Prussia, by descent to the last owner from whom Prinz and Möller bought the chair.
