Similar to tiles adorning the entrance to the tomb of Sultan Mehmed I (d. 1421) in Bursa, this deeply molded tile displays affinities with the tilework traditions of the Timurid dynasty in Iran and Central Asia. This similarity may be explained by the presence of Persian tileworkers in Bursa at the time of the tomb’s construction. The supervisor of the tomb project, Nakkas 'Ali, a native of Bursa, is said to have been trained in Timurid‑controlled Samarqand.
