Reliquary Cross with Saint George

Byzantine

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 303

The figure of Saint George wearing a tunic, arms raised in supplication, is incised on one side of this cross. A star with geometric designs and lost inlays decorates the reverse. Saint George is the most common figure on this type of cross.
