Description

This cantle plate was part of a large garniture made in Augsburg in 1563 for Wolfgang von Zweibrücken-Veldenz (1526–1569), Count Palatine of the Rhine. The remainder of the garniture, readily identifiable owing to its distinctive decoration, is today divided among museums in Saint Petersburg, Paris, and Brussels. The garniture comprises two armors for man; a complete bard, including two shaffrons; and two saddles.
