Stoneware bottles of this type were produced at the kilns in Jinjuk-ri, South Chungcheong Province, during the ninth century and continued into the early tenth century at the Gurim-ri kilns in South Gyeongsang Province. The shape likely derives from leather water bottles carried by northern nomadic tribes.
