Description

The Virgin stands within a lush network of leafy branches (Astwerk), a translation of architectural canopies and tracery to a vegetal vocabulary. Peter Hemmel and a group of stained-glass painters known as the Strasbourg Workshop Cooperative were among the most innovative artists of the late fifteenth century and executed glazing programs throughout southern Germany.
