This artwork is currently on display in Gallery 010
From the Latin words for water (“aqua”) and hand (“manus”), aquamanilia were used for hand washing. They have two openings, one for filling and a second for pouring. The Cloisters has an important group of copper alloy examples on view in the galleries upstairs. This pottery example is a rare survivor and preserves some of its original green glaze.
