Mother and Child Figure, 15th–20th century, Bamana peoples, Mali. The Michael C. Rockefeller Memorial Collection, Bequest of Nelson A. Rockefeller, 1979 (1979.206.121)
This work embodies the hopes and aspirations of a Bamana community. While it was conceived to celebrate the preciousness of human life and look to the future, it was also designed to be part of a community's reflections on the essential contributions of past members and their collective responsibilities.

Location: Entrance to the galleries for the Arts of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas, Michael C. Rockefeller Wing, first floor
