The Temple of Dendur, Roman Period, reign of Augustus (ca. 15 B.C.). Given to the United States by Egypt in 1965, awarded to The Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1967, and installed in The Sackler Wing in 1978 (68.154)

Constructed by command of Augustus, Roman emperor and ruler of Egypt, the temple was dedicated to Isis, Osiris, and two locally deified men, Pedise and Pahor. The environment in which the temple is set is conducive to contemplation.
