The Agony in the Garden, by Massimiliano Soldani Benzi, Italian (Florentine) 1658–1740. Rogers Fund, 1910 (10.180)
This terracotta relief depicts Christ, overcome at the prospect of his impending fate. He is flanked by two angels—one bearing the chalice representing his sacrifice, the other tenderly supporting his swooning body. Putti in the lower right-hand corner hold a banner displaying the instruments of Christ's Passion; behind them are the Apostles Peter, James, and John, asleep.

Location: Kravis Wing East, case 2, European Sculpture and Decorative Arts, first floor
