Mourners, ca. 1453, by Étienne Bobillet and Paul de Mosselman, France (Bourges). Gift of J. Pierpont Morgan, 1917 (17.190.386, .389)
These two alabaster mourning figures from the tomb at Bourges of Jean, duc de Berry (d. 1416), cloaked in voluminous drapery with their faces hidden by deep hoods, are solemn portraits of sorrowful remembrance.
