Icarus, Empire State Building, 1930, by Lewis Hine. Ford Motor Company Collection, Gift of Ford Motor Company and John C. Waddell, 1987 (1987.1100.119)
The gelatin silver print by Lewis Hine captures a steel worker straddling a cable high in sky during the construction of the Empire State Building. Unflustered by the danger of his work, he exemplifies the ability of the mind to overcome the challenges of a perilous situation.

Location: Drawings, Prints, and Photographs, second floor, as part of the newly extended special exhibition "New York, New York: Photographs from the Collection"
