Esteemed for his powers of characterization and mastery of technique, Thomas Eakins (1844–1916) is recognized as one of America’s foremost painters, a master draftsman and watercolorist, and an especially gifted photographer. The Metropolitan Museum now presents the first comprehensive survey since 1982 of this great artist’s achievement. The exhibition, which displays more than 150 works in all media from institutions nationwide, reveals recent scholarly discoveries about Eakins’s intentions and methods and introduces a new generation to the full range of his accomplishments.
Accompanied by a catalogue.
