This roundel and a similar one portraying Saint Romulus (National Gallery, London) occupied the top of the left framing pilaster of the San Domenico high altarpiece, with Saint Romulus on the front face of the pilaster and Saint Alexander set at right angles to it on the outside, lateral face. Romulus and Alexander were patron saints of Fiesole.
