Frank Lloyd Wright designed this armchair along with many other pieces of furniture for the offices of the Larkin Building, Buffalo, New York, which was demolished in 1950. In his 1943 autobiography, Wright called this project "the first emphatic outstanding protest against the tide of meaningless elaboration sweeping the United States … The furniture was all made of steel and magnesite built into place—even the desks and chairs we made with the building."
