From 1845 until his death in 1880, Gifford chose Kaaterskill (spelled "Kauterskill" by Gifford) Clove in the Catskill Mountains as one of his favorite subjects. In his typical fashion, the artist created a dreamy homage to sunlight and atmosphere.
