The whirling rosette decorating the base of this vessel seems to be a trademark of wares made in Samarqand, and its appearance on wares found in Nishapur may indicate that they were imported from Samarqand. A pseudo-inscription in kufic script is repeated on the exterior of this bowl, in the same red as the whirling rosette.
