Window, 17th century
Egypt or Syria
Stained glass; 15 1/4 x 19 in. (38.7 x 48.3 cm)
Gift of William R. Ware, 1893 (93.26.3,4)

A window such as this with brightly colored panes in blue, orange, green, and red might have been found in a room of a late Ottoman aristocratic home, like the Nur al-Din reception room also in the Museum's collection (1970.170). Tinted glass was favored because it filtered the light, but it also complemented the multihued furnishings of these rooms.
