The central panel of this tapestry-woven sleeveless jacket features a decorative composition of a garden rock and bamboo in gold and silver threads and silks in shades of blue. The elaborate dark band around the central panel consists of a fretwork with leaves, also woven with metallic threads. In the late nineteenth century, sleeveless jackets in rich materials like these were worn over robes by female members of the Qing dynasty's ruling family.
