Diwali 2011

On October 15, 2011, the Multicultural Audience Development Initiative invited guests to celebrate Diwali, the annual Indian celebration known as the "Festival of Lights," in which lights or lamps signify the victory of good over evil within every human being. The event was hosted by the Multicultural Advisory Committee and Committee Member Lal K. Motwani, president of the National Federation of Indian-American Associations (NFIA). At the beginning of the evening, the Metropolitan Museum's John Guy, Florence and Herbert Irving Curator for the Arts of South and Southest Asia, gave a presentation on Wonder of the Age: Master Painters of India, 1100–1900. After the presentation, members of the East-West School of Dance performed the story of Diwali.
