Lingerie

The extensive wardrobe of Millicent Rogers, a fashion trend setter, is part of the Brooklyn Museum's collection. There are several examples of exquisitely made lingerie in the collection, such as this lingerie set. Fabricated in a delicate, subtle peach crepe de chine, and trimmed with hand-made lace, this piece is of particular interest because of the fine workmanship and extraordinary details. There is a discreet monogram that measures 3/8 inch high, barely discernible with the naked eye, that reads "MM" for her given name, Mary Millicent. The variation of the monograms seen on Rogers' lingerie in the collection illustrates that clients would have been given choices in style, size and form of the monogram to customize each piece they ordered. The details, such as the hand-done fagoting and piping at the top edge of the waistband channel, signify fine workmanship.
