Louis XV is represented at the age of forty-seven. The king is shown wearing a suit of armor, a mantle thrown over his left shoulder, with the plaque and the ribbon of the Holy Spirit and the cordon of the Golden Fleece. An air of majesty is conveyed by his looks, and the position of his torso is emphasized by the sweeping line of the drapery. The bust was exhibited at the Salon of 1757 and delivered the same year to Madame de Pompadour at the château de Champs.
