Inscription: (Monogram engraved in center of underside of box, in XIX century script, under an earl's coronet) E N (for Normanton)

Marking: [1] Leopard's head crowned;
[2] Small black letter f (date letter for 1683–84);
[3] Lion passant guardant;
[4] W F, double bowknot above, cinquefoil below (maker's mark for William Fowle);

Location of marks:
[1]-[4] on interior of base, [4] poorly striked but legible in all particulars
