Allegorical female statutette of a Virtue or Sibyl
Agostino Zoppo (ca. 1520–1572)
Height: 19 in. (48.3 cm)
Gift of Fred and Rita Richman, 1978
On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 536
The open backs of this and a related statuette (1997.512) bear the remains of plaster that helped secure them, probably in niches. The figural style is identical to that of niched figures on the tomb of Tito Livio in the Palazzo della Ragione, Padua, of 1547.
