Although primarily a maker of artistic furniture--handcrafted according to the tenets of the Arts and Crafts movement--Rohlfs also produced aesthetically pleasing utilitarian wares for the larger consumer market. He designed at least seven different styles of chafing dishes, though few are known today. Here, the use of modest components conforms to the Arts and Crafts philosophy of humble materials. The shape and design of the handles indicate Rohlfs’s preference for the unusual angles and geometry, while the overall form appears surprisingly modern.
Marking: Rohlfs' maker mark [“R” inside of a handsaw] on lid of warming dome;
Impressed mark on casserole body near underside of handle, mostly illegible, resembles LAN IE L26
