Armor for Man
Credit Line:
Gift of Christian A. Zabriskie, 1938
Accession Number:
On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 374
Although inspired by French examples, the ornament of this armor is distinctly Flemish. This is the only recorded work by Lochorst, possibly a goldsmith rather than an armorer, whose signature is found on the backplate.
Signature: Signed on the backplate: D G V LOCHORST FECIT.

Inscription: Inscribed on the right cheek-piece of the cabasset, within a shield amid a trophy of arms: D G (which recur as part of the signature on the backplate).
