Terracotta kylix (drinking cup)

Attributed to the Briseis Painter

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 157

Interior, youth before unexplained structure
Exterior, obverse and reverse, colonnade with flute player flanked by youths

The structure in the tondo is clearly of wood, but its function remains unknown. The scenes on the exterior have been interpreted as a chorus of young men training for a public performance.
