Edward Steichen; Grace M. Mayer

Whitney Museum of American Art. "Edward Steichen," October 5, 2000–February 4, 2001.

In a letter of Jan. 1, 1988 (see object file), Grace Mayer suggests that this print dates from the artist's first Paris period (1900-1902), about which he wrote in his autobiography, A Life in Photography: "I did a number of nude figures in Paris..." Compare plates 24 and 26, "pigment prints" of single nude figures dated 1902.
