Two Stirrups

Syrian or Armenian

Not on view

This shape of stirrup, with its long rectangular footplate and wide flaring sides, is found in most of the Islamic world. Arab equestrian equipment spread in Africa and in the Near East alongside the spread of Islam itself, and was then adopted by local populations and adapted in their own styles.
