Robert Hellebranth. Charles-François Daubigny, 1817–1878. Morges, Switzerland, 1976, p. 20, no. 41, ill., calls it "La Seine à Herblay, le Matin"; reproduces a similar composition (1872; collection Mme d'Aigremont; H40).

Robert Hellebranth. Letter to Mary Ann Wurth Harris. August 1, 1978, identifies the site as Herblay, near Paris and notes that the church still exists.



This work depicts the village of Herblay, located on the Seine near Paris. The church seen in the distance still exists. A similar painting (Hellebranth 1976, no. 40) is in the collection of Mme d'Aigremont [see Ref. Hellebranth 1978].
