Michel Faré. Letter to Harry G. Sperling. May 20, 1961, believes that this trompe-l'oeil can be given with a great deal of certainty to Nicolas de Largillière.
This painting bears an interesting resemblance to a trompe l'oeil painting by Hieronymus Hastner (called Il Corazza, Florence, 1665–1729), which appeared in a sale at Bonham & Sons, London, March 28, 1974, as no. 45.
