In his unpublished list of miniatures in the Fredrick collection, E. G. Paine (1960) states that this miniature is signed Braun; he dates it about 1820. No trace of a signature can now be seen. The miniature is a pair with 62.122.118, and both are by the same artist. The sitters may be husband and wife. Bodo Hofstetter (1995) suggests that their costumes are Bavarian.
