A Hunter with a Dog
Much like its pendant (25.106.16), this portrait depicts a man well adjusted to nature, attended by his hunting dog and far from the city raging with the consequences of the French Revolution. Nonetheless, the date, "an 3me" or "Year 3" for 1794/1795, clearly indicates the sea change in French politics. The reverse of this miniature uses two colors of human hair, presumably that of the man and his wife in the pendant miniature, woven into flowers and seems to have been signed by a separate artisan.
