Redon apparently owned a number of vases, such as this one of delicately patterned porcelain, in which his wife arranged bouquets that formed the subjects of his flower paintings. The vase seems to be the same one that appears in Flowers in a Chinese Vase (59.16.3), but in this work it is seen from another side. Here the bouquet is treated with greater definition and may have been painted later, about 1912–14.
