Esther Bell. "Catalogue Raisonné of the Thaw Collection." Studying Nature: Oil Sketches from the Thaw Collection. Ed. Jennifer Tonkovich. New York, 2011, p. 132, no. 91, ill. (color), calls it "Schloss Emming, between Windach and Geltendorf, Seen from the East" and dates it about 1802.

Kobell already had made an etching of Schloss Emming from a similar viewpoint in 1799 (Monika Gœdl-Roth, Wilhelm von Kobell Druckgraphik: Studien zur Radierung und Aquatinta mit kritischem Verzeichnis, Munich, 1974, unpaginated, no. 9, ill.). Schloss Emming was the summer country home Kobell and his wife inherited from her family (see Wolfgang Johannes Bekh, Maler in München: Ein Gang durch die Jahrhunderte von Jan Pollak bis Franz Marc, Munich, 1964, p. 97).
