Bowl

9th–10th century
Not on view
The drawing of the bird in flight in the center, which is typical of Samanid Nishapur, is something between the representation of an animal and a calligraphic composition. The flowered open wings are echoed in the inscriptional band all around, creating a simple but extremely effective arrangement.
