This manuscript copy of Mahmud 'Abd al‑Baqi’s Divan (collected works) contains poems extolling the pleasures and notable events of courtly life in later sixteenth-century Istanbul. This painting illustrates the arrival of the Safavid prince Haidar Mirza, sent to the Ottoman court as a hostage to fulfill the terms of a treaty between the Ottomans and the Safavids.
Inscription: The Turkish calligraphy on the painting is translated as: "Good news for the Persians, may they be happy. Mir Haidar [a prince of 'Ali] the light of the eyes of Iran is coming."

There is a poem written in Turkish on the back of this folio that has not been translated.
