Appliqué Plaque with a Tree and Four Birds

Not on view

This small but powerfully rendered plaque depicting heraldic birds highlights the varied uses of brass in the medieval Islamic world. The perforations in the bodies and wings of the birds indicate that this object once functioned as an appliqué, perhaps ornamenting leather horse trappings or a belt.
