This vivid portrait may present someone known to Prendergast, given the striking features and immediate, frontal gaze. As with other nocturnal watercolors in the Public Garden Sketchbook, the artist employs a pink/blue/black/green palette resulting in a broadly washed, atmospheric mauve.
