Inscription: Annotated in pen and brown ink (upper right): JACOBUS DE ALVAROTIS / 1453 - Obijt.
Nathaniel Hone, London (Lugt 2793). According to a note (in French) on the reverse of the backing paper, the drawing was sold with an attribution to Benozzo Gozzoli at an auction which has not been identified, as no. 29 and illustrated in the catalogue on pl. 8. The text of this catalogue, as recorded on the backing paper, states that the drawing had previously belonged to Lord Wolseley.
