Burlington Magazine 139 (September 1997), p. 598 n. 53 (possibly this painting), quotes from a [November 15, 1919] letter in which Matisse describes meeting a gentleman [Brandon Davis?] at the Leicester Galleries exhibition who had purchased four small Nice landscapes and a figure before the exhibition opened and then proceeded to buy another Nice landscape and a head of Lorette.
