The instrument was restored by the noted English maker George Saint George in 1899. He fitted a new neck, fingerboard, and tailpiece, transferring the original decorative inlaid facing to the new parts. This instrument, previously converted to a cello, was reconverted to a gamba by the noted English maker George Saint George in 1899 when he fitted it with a new neck and fingerboard. The instrument was received further repairs in 1956 by Dietrich M. Kessler.
