The four-clawed dragon (mang) at the center of this panel is woven in metallic thread of two types. Strips of gilded paper were woven flat for shiny areas such as the dragon's nose and claws and the flames emanating from its body. Strips of gilded paper wrapped around a silk core were used for more matte areas, such as the dragon's face and the centers of its scales. The piecing visible at the right and the cording sewn to the right edge are traits of the outer mountings of large Tibetan paintings.
