Plunderers' Wedge

Third Intermediate Period

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 130

One of two "plunderers' wedges" found in the pit of Tomb MMA 60, this long stick of tamarisk wood was sharpened at one end. The excavators suggested that this and its mate (25.3.179b) were used to pry up the lids of coffins.
