A barefoot girl leading a prize calf across a brook in a landscape, accompanied by a dog. The calf has a paper tied to its forehead inscribed "No 1 / Prize Calf". Behind is a landscape with cows, sheep and a rustic couple and a lake or loch. Based on a picture shown at the Royal Academy in 1859.
