Frank Schille Constans

Alice Schille American
ca. 1900
On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 754
Alice Schille was one of the most talented American watercolor artists working in the first half of the twentieth century. In addition to her modernist watercolor compositions, she executed miniature portraits in watercolor. This lively portrayal of her favorite nephew Frank Schille Constans reveals the artist’s mastery in this medium as seen in her confident lightly applied brush strokes and bright palette.
